Legal
Accessibility
The Book Screen aims to meet the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) and EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We also follow WCAG 2.2 AA where it does not conflict with the current design.
The round button at the bottom of the screen is a helper so families can change how the site looks. It does not, by itself, make the site legally compliant. Native page structure, labels, keyboard access, and this statement are the real path.
How to use the on-site settings
- Tap the round Accessibility settings button at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose a text size, or turn on high contrast, bigger pointer, underlined links, extra spacing, less movement, or an easier-to-read font.
- Tap Reset all if this is a shared tablet and you want the usual look back.
These choices stay on this device in the browser. They are not a new cookie, and they do not change points, reading progress, or Story Quest. Decorative motion on the home page follows the Less movement toggle here. Windows or browser “reduce animation” alone does not turn that home-page motion off.
Known limits
- Chapter stories stay in English on purpose, so children practise reading English. The word lookup can translate a few words. It does not translate the whole story.
- Story videos use the browser's own controls. Trailers, Story Quest videos, and discussion and creative-writing videos have English captions. They start switched off: turn them on with the CC or subtitles button in the player. Captions are English only.
- Some older Story Quest videos also have words drawn into the picture. Those are part of the video and do not turn off with the captions button.
- High contrast changes colours around pictures and videos. It does not invert them.
